Due to cost cutting, the Guardian have decided to end Loomus after a run of ten years. The final episode will appear in the Family section on May 28th, 2016, and after that… who knows? I’ll continue to contribute to the Guardian from time to time but will also be working on personal projects – two books, an exhibition of drawings and etchings, a stage show… and whatever else comes along or I can think up!
Watch this space (I’ll try and become more diligent at posting news).
xx Steven
I’ll be showing images and talking about my work at various events over the next few weeks. Here’s a list:
Saturday June 7th at 4.00pm I’ll be in conversation with the wonderful Martin Rowson at the Stoke Newington Literary Festival. We’ll be showing work and talking about our utterly different approach to being cartoonists. For details and tickets click here: http://www.stokenewingtonliteraryfestival.com/snlf_events/steven-appleby-martin-rowson/
Also on Saturday June 7th at 9.00pm to 11.00pm I’ll be on stage at The British Library with Black Francis (of Pixies) and Josh Frank to celebrate publication of The Good Inn (SelfMadeHero), written by them and illustrated by me. Our discussion will be chaired by journalist and writer David Quantick. There will be films and a free French drink for ticket holders. For details see here: http://www.bl.uk/whatson/events/event162423.html
And on Sunday June 22nd at 5.00pm I’ll be at The Literary Kitchen Festival talking about working on The Good Inn. ILYA and Oscar Zarate will also present their latest graphic novels, followed by a discussion between the three of us, chaired by Steve Walsh from Gosh! Comics & South London Hardcore. http://www.literarykitchen.co.uk/festival-Items/graphic-novel-event-tbc/
Back issues of LOOMUS, the cartoon strip I wrote and drew for The Guardian’s Family section on Saturdays, can be read online here.
